What you'll study
At KS5, students have the requisite skills and knowledge in 3D Design from their KS3 and KS4 journey to begin showing their mastery by working on projects that involve abstract concepts to challenge thinking such as the Hepworth x Giobagnara project. Students have a programme of study that includes in class learning and independent study/skill development. The course follows a familiar route from GCSE where students will research and produce responses to design influences, develop ideas through modelling and material exploration before producing a meaningful response that reflects their research. Preparation for the exam based on externally set briefs by AQA begins in February of year 13, where students should be demonstrating their mastery of how to deploy all of the skills developed so far along the course by working autonomously.
All work is presented as a design portfolio.
What you'll love
Throughout the two years, students will focus on well-regarded designers and cultural movements. They will appreciate the influences these have had on modern and contemporary materials, manufacture and design. Students will use these inspirations through the two units of the A-level.
There are so many future destinations and careers that our students have available to them from completing a 3D Design A-level. Students tend to pursue a career in a variety of design / engineering based fields; this can be achieved through a degree at University or acquiring their own apprenticeship.
