Teaching & Learning
Subject leaders are responsible for departmental organisation, for the management and monitoring of units of learning and for overall standards of teaching. Our teaching and learning strategy is evidence based as we know that high quality teaching and learning are vital to ensure student progress. Careful lesson planning, varied teaching methods, motivating guidance and sensitive but honest assessment will enable you to achieve your academic potential. At key stage five you will choose from the wide range of courses we offer. Students can either study three (or four) A-levels , Level 3 vocational BTEC courses or a combination of A-level and level 3 vocational courses.
You will also follow the core curriculum which includes study period with your tutor, a futures programme and a leadership programme.
Individual subjects have specific requirements which potential students must meet. These include GCSE English and Mathematics at level 4 or above for level 3 courses. We will always look at exceptional cases on their merits, but the purpose of these entry requirements is to ensure that students join courses which are right for them and where they will work alongside others of similar interests and abilities. Students from a wide range of backgrounds are welcomed but they must be able to participate fully in all aspects of the lessons and to produce written work of an appropriate level.
